President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a National chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande and other APC leaders were at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, for the party’s presidential campaign rally.

During the course of the rally, Tinubu, a former Lagos state governor had asked the party’s supporter that former president Olusegun Obasanjo, is expired milk, therefore they should dump him in the dustbin.”

This statement has annoyed some prominent Nigerians like Senator Ben Murray Bruce, and a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri.

According to them, Obasanjo is worth more than how he’s being referred to by APC members. They queried Tinubu for insulting the former president because of Buhari.

Ben Murray Bruce:

President Olusegun Obasanjo is an icon. He ended the Nigerian Civil War. The first military head of state to voluntarily hand over to an elected President in Africa. He stabilised the democracy we are now enjoying. It is rather unfortunate that the beneficiaries now insult him!

Reno Omokri;

Dear Tinubu,

Has @MBuhari, who you are insulting Obasanjo for, insulted any Northern? Buhari won’t insult a Northerner because of a Tinubu. Yet, you insult Obj, your brother. Afonja did it before you, hoping that Alimi will make him king. Where did he end up? #TinubuTheAfonja

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Friday that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should not count on him for support in his latest bid to actualise his life-long ambition of being elected the president of Nigeria.

The former president, one of the most influential of his living peers, hinged his blistering position on the unsavoury corruption perception of Mr Atiku while speaking with PREMIUM TIMES shortly after his arrival from Kigali on Friday afternoon.

“How can I be on the same side with Atiku?” Mr Obasanjo asked. “To do what?”
“If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me. If I do not know, yes. But once I know, Atiku can never enjoy my support,” he added.

Mr Obasanjo rejected all notions that his remarks could be deemed too personal, coming as 2019 presidential campaign gathers steam with Mr Abubakar amongst the front-runners.

Mandela, Tutu Advised me to Contest Nigeria’s Presidency – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Sunday said God has been too partial to him by bestowing unmerited favour on him.

Obasanjo also revealed how the late former South African President, Nelson Mandela, and rights activist, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, advised him to contest for Nigeria’s Presidency in 1999.

He spoke at the thanksgiving service held at the Treasure House of God, Abeokuta, which was organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun State chapter to commemorate his 80th birthday.

Obasanjo will clock 80 on Sunday, March 5, 2017.

The one-time head of state, who wondered why God has been so merciful to him, declared that he had gotten much more than he deserved in the journey of life.

He said despite the fact that he was imprisoned on a trumped up charge of coup plotting by the late General Sanni Abacha, he came out alive and later became a president in 1999.

Obasanjo explained that given his background as a poor Ibogun village boy, with stark illiterate parents, he never dreamt his name would be heard in the nearest hamlet, not to talk of Nigeria and the world over.

According to him, he consulted with late South African President Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu when pressure was being mounted on him to contest as Nigeria’s president in 1999.

He said he would always be grateful to God for showing overwhelming grace on him.

How Obasanjo threatened, harassed me for resigning as his minister – Governor Mimiko

Published

Outgoing Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko has disclosed how former President, Olusegun Obasanjo threatened him when he opted to resign from his, Obasanjo’s, government as a Minister.
The outgoing governor was the Minister of Works during the administration of the former President.
Mimiko alleged that Obasanjo’s threat was an attempt to prevent him from running for the office of the governor in his state because the former President knew he was going to contest against an ex-governor, Olusegun Agagu.
In his book titled, ‘Mimiko’s Odyssey: A Biography of Revelations’ which would be presented today in Akure, the state capital, the outgoing governor said he did not only leave Obasanjo’s cabinet, but also dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Labour Party, LP.
The governor claimed that the former President promised to change his ministry and hand him over to the next President should he opt to remain as a Minister.
According to Mimiko, “You don’t know the situation I was in then. Look, you don’t know Obasanjo. I worked with him. In history, go and check it out. There are not too many people who were able to resign from Obasanjo’s government.
“In fact, you can’t do it. Sir, you can’t just do it. I did not only resign;jj when I came to the Federal Executive Council after resignation, everybody thought they were seeing a ghost.
“Obasanjo hounded me out of Abuja, virtually. We came out with a new party.
“Anybody that gave N1m then, you can’t imagine how we would celebrate him or her. Four months to election, we were raising money in hundreds of thousands: N100,000; N50,000; N20,000
“I still remember one architect, who sent us a cheque for N1m; we celebrated it. I did not have N1m when I decided to run and challenge Agagu. I did not have N1m anywhere.
“You may not believe it; that is the gospel truth. You get what I am talking about? I was ready to lose. I didn’t care. The people wanted me. I could feel it. I just could touch it. Ask anybody who served in the cabinet then.
“Yayale Ahmed was Head of Service, Ufot Ekaette was the SGF, General Mohammed was there, Nweke Junior was there. Even people who were not in government: Ask from Akin Osuntokun; ask from Femi Fani-Kayode. They were begging me not to go, saying, ‘Baba threatened you publicly and you still want to go?’ They begged me.
“Baba called me. He said, ‘I will change your ministry, I will hand you over to the incoming President. Can’t you understand?’ I said, ‘Thank you, Baba. It is a privilege but I am going’. He said, ‘You dare not’. I said, ‘I am going’. He said, ‘Okay. Try me’. Do you understand the circumstance?” Punch quoted him as saying in the book.
