– Veteran rapper Modenine is in the news again
– This is as a result of the rumor going around that Jay Z stole a song from him
– He has come out to deny that that is what happened
On Friday, June 30, legendary American rapper Jay Z released his 14th studio album titled 4:44 to critical acclaim. Many all over the world took to their social media pages to express their delight at the album.
Not to be left out, Nigerians also started discussing the album and many were touched by the message in one of the tracks named The Story of OJ.
It was not until popular Nigerian rapper Modenine released a video with a song that sounded similar to Jay Z’s song playing in the background. That song titled My Skin is Black was released by Mode back in 2008, 9 years before Jay’s song.

Naturally, many thought Jay Z had stolen Modenine’s song. Some even went as far as contacting various websites telling them that Beyonce’s husband had stolen from a lesser known Nigerian rapper.
But that wasn’t the case. The truth is that both Modenine and Jay Z sampled a song by American jazz singer Nina Simone titled Four Women. The song was released in 1996 and Mode was the first to use it in a song of his.
In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a sound recording in a different song or piece.
Taking to his Instagram page, Modenine explained what happened while at the same time telling those peddling rumors to stop.

Forbes latest release of world’s wealthiest hip hops artists has seen Sean Diddy Combs, popularly known as Puff Daddy remain number one on the list.

Although fellow rapper Jay Z fortunes rose 30 percent last year to give him an estimated net worth of 810 million dollars, it was not enough to dethrone Sean Diddy Combs from the top of Forbes annual list released yesterday.
Combs retained his No. 1 spot with an estimated net worth of 820 million dollars, helped by his lucrative deals with Ciroc Vodka, and his Sean John clothing line, Forbes said.
But rapper and producer Jay Z moved into second place with 810 million dollars thanks largely to a 200 million dollars investment in his Tidal music streaming service from wireless carrier Sprint in January. The company is now said to be worth more than 10 times his initial investment.
According to Forbes, Jay Z also augments his portfolio with a champagne brand, Armand de Brignac, and a growing entertainment company, Roc Nation
Forbes produced the list by looking at past earnings and financial documents, valuing current holdings, and talking to analysts, attorneys, managers, and other industry players.
The top 5 was rounded out by Dr. Dre ($740 million), rapper and Cash Money Records co-owner Bryan “Birdman” Williams ($110 million), and Canadian rapper Drake with an estimated 90 million dollars.

Jay Z is the greatest individual that the Hip Hop culture has ever produced.

Jay Z is not resting on his oars. After his success with Roc Nation and Tidal, the legendary rapper is moving into the world of tech just like his former rival now buddie Nas.

The news of Jay Z heading to Silicon Valley is one of awe, respect and wonder. It seems HOV can’t be stopped. The Roc Nation boss keeps on winning in both his personal life and in business also. “I’ve been winnin’ so long it’s like alchemy” he raps on DJ Khaled‘s latest single ‘Shining‘.

Jay Z is the embodiment of the Hip Hop dream. From the street corner to the boardroom with his vast business portfolio and empire, Jigga is the human embodiment of the Hip Hop vision.

Sean Carter was born in 1969 in New York City, the year the benign neglect policy was proposed byDaniel Patrick Moynihan who was the urban affairs adviser of President Richard Nixon.

The benign neglect policy more or less led to the fall of inner city New York. Burnt buildings, the power outage in New York city in 1977 helped push the Hip Hop culture to other parts of the country.

The new music & art movement was a way for minorities in the inner city to channel their talents creatively. Under these harsh conditions, Hip Hop flourished and became an outlet for blacks, Latinos to beat institutional racism.

“Either you’re slinging crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot” rapped the Notorious B.I.G. Jay Z went from peddling drugs during the crack era to becoming a rap phenomenon.

While most of his contemporaries are done and dusted, Jay Z is showing that he has a lot left in his tank. Hip Hop is the culture of the underdog, the hustler who makes it against all odds. This is a summary of Jay Z’s life. Born in the era of benign neglect and raised in the crack era, Jay Z has hustled his way to the White House and Silicon Valley.

“I’m not a businessman; I’m a business, man!” – Jay Z
