Fayose condemns FG’s plan to ban Okada, Says; “I won’t ban Okada in Ekiti”

Published

Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described plan by the federal government to ban commercial motorcycle, popularly known as Okada in the country as wicked, saying;

“In Ekiti State, we won’t ban Okada because it is a source of livelihood to a lot of families. Why would anyone even contemplate such when government did not creat alternative employments?”

He added;

“With this economic recession that is biting so hard, it is sheer heartlessness for the federal government to even think of sending Okada riders out of business instead of putting machineries in motion to check their excesses.”

According to a statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose, who was addressing Okada riders that accosted him in Ikere Ekiti, on his way from Abuja on Saturday, said “ban on Okada will worsen the country’s security situation because it will remove foods from the table of so many people.”

The governor, who promised Okada riders in Ekiti State his continued support and assistance, said;

“The federal government has no power to ban Okada in my State and under my watch, no one will prevent Okada Riders from operating as long as they do not go against the laws.”

Governor Fayose said;

“The hunger in the land is killing and most of these Okada riders are graduates who have taken to commercial motorcycling to survive because of unemployment. Many of them are even those who lost their jobs within the 21 months of this All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government and government workers, whose salaries are not being paid regularly. How does the federal government expect them to feed if their means of livelihood is taken away?

“If commercial motorcyclist is a major cause of fatal road traffic accidents across the country, as posited by the federal government, should proposing their ban be an option? “Should we also say motor vehicles, especially heavy duty vehicles should be banned from plying our roads because they also cause accidents?

“Methinks the federal government should be concerned with the rate of unemployment in the country and the deplorable state of our roads, especially federal roads, instead of seeking to deprive Nigerians, who have taken to riding Okada to save themselves and their families from dying of hunger.”

I would Have Burnt My PDP Card if Sheriff won – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayo Fayose, said he would have burnt his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card if the court had declared Ali Modu Sheriff chairman of the party.
He said that he would have also destroyed the party’s flag in his possession.
Fayose, who returned to the state on Friday after the Wednesday’s Supreme Court session, stated this while addressing PDP supporters in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that he would have destroyed his membership card of the party and the flag right at the court premises if the verdict had been in favour of Sheriff.
“I never imagined myself being in the same party with impostors” he said.
The governor, however, said that Sheriff and his followers had been forgiven but won’t go scot-free for causing the party members so much pain.
“I went to court with a perfume which I wanted to use to spray my cards and party flags and set them ablaze even within the court premises if Sheriff had won; that was why I went to court.
“Although I believe that we remain the same PDP family, no one can cause our party such pains and embarrassment and expect that he will go without being asked to account for his actions.
“The `no victor, no vanquished’ that we said was a mere political slogan. Whoever that participated in this charade must show some reasonable level of remorse for his actions,” he said.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has vowed to be a “thorn on the flesh” of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government, stressing that Nigerians are tired of them.
 Fayose made the declaration at the Expanded National Caucus of the PDP in Abuja on Thursday. He said he would continue to express his mind and would not even mind if the Federal Government withdrew his police guards.

“I will continue to leak their secrets. I will remain a thorn in their flesh. Anything they want to do, let them come. If they want to carry their police, let them carry their police. I don’t care,” he said.

The Chairman of the PDP’s Governors’ Forum, urged members of the PDP to remain steadfast and not to be intimidated by the spate of “arrests, incarceration, intimidation, provocation by the party in government.”

Protesters storm EFCC office in Abuja, demand for Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose’s Prosecution over $2.1bn Arms Scandal

Some protesters under the aegis of “Patriotic Mothers Without Borders”, on Friday, January 20, 2017 stormed the EFCC Abuja headquarters calling for the “arrest, investigation and prosecution” of Ayo Fayose, governor of Ekiti State, over his alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms deal scandal.

Chanting “Fayose must go”, the women numbering about 300 carried various placards and banners with inscriptions like “EFCC Must Prosecute Fayose”, “Corruption is Corruption”, “Fayose is being tormented by the blood of innocent Nigerians slaughtered by Boko Haram”.

Convener of the group, Nnenna Jideofor, accused Fayose of stealing part of funds meant to equip the military in the fight against terrorism.

“The gravity of the crime does not permit that we wait indefinitely for Fayose to leave office; he would have finished spending his share of the loot by then, and he has all the time to destroy evidence.”

While presenting its petition to Umar Mohammed, Deputy Director Operations, Abuja, Jideofor expressed discontent at the ruling of Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Ekiti, ordering the EFCC to de-freeze Fayose’s Zenith Bank account, that the agency earlier froze having been linked to the arms deal scandal.

“As mothers, we beg the EFCC to as a matter of urgency, investigate how much Fayose gave lawmakers of Ekiti State House of Assembly who we believe have lost their souls to an overlord,” she added

Responding, Mohammed assured the “mothers with borders” that the agency takes all petitions seriously, and that of the women would be given adequate attention.

“We are not selective in our operations, and every petition received is thoroughly investigated, no matter how highly placed the person is,” he said.
